Evangeline, the Musical

If you know the story of the Cajun people, then you probably know something of "Evangeline." Two Baton Rouge-based writers, Jamie Wax and Paul Taranto, have teamed up to create a Broadway-style play, "Evangeline: The Musical."

The play was performed in Baton Rouge in the Spring of 2003. It will performed by the LSU Theater Department in the Summer of 2003. In August 2003, the play will be performed by the Shreveport Symphony in Shreveport, Louisiana. The authors hope to bring the play to Broadway next year.

The play is a purely fictional account of a mostly fictional character, Evangeline. The play is based loosely upon Longfellow's "Evangeline," but adds new characters, new scenes, and lot's of original music. It is very well written and produced. There is plenty of laughter and singing, along with the mournful songs of Evangeline.

The authors have kindly allowed us to use some of the materials from the play on this project.

If you are interested, you can purchase a copy of the music on CD. Please visit the authors' website at http://www.evangelinethemusical.com, or email Jamie Wax at waxmail@eatel.net.
