Festivals Acadiens

Each September, the city of Lafayette, Louisiana, is host to the Festivals Acadiens. Here, visitors can "celebrate life the Cajun way with music, food, dancing, crafts and more."

This series of festivals celebrates Cajun life through its music and food. Cajun musicians from all over the state (many now nationally-known) appear on stage at the free festival. Many bands, such as Beausoleil, and D.L. Menard, perform here nearly every year.

Along with the music, the festivals celebrate Cajun life through other means. Naturally, Cajun dancing is done at the music festival. Cajun food is available throughout the fairgrounds. Other events, such as music workshops, are held in the Heritage area of the festival. A native crafts exhibit is held at the nearby Museum of Natural History, and other events are hosted in downtown Lafayette.

Other activities may include Cajun cooking schools, Comedy shows, street fairs, craft shows, and art shows.

"Kids Alive!" is the name of a portion of the celebration for kids. Held downtown, the event includes Cajun musicians (such as Jane Vidrine) playing songs and telling stories especially for children. Fun activities for children are included.
