Where Acadians Settled:

New Iberia, Louisiana

Step into the unique semi-tropical environment of Iberia Parish, where our Cajun history began in 1765. The farmers, trappers, hunters and fisherman have remained through the years and developed expertise in agriculture, boat building, mining and petroleum production. Salt mining is also an important industry here.

Enjoy learning about the way sugar, rice and hot sauce are made. Crabs, crawfish, fish, shrimp and oysters are harvested in the waterways surrounding our beautiful paradise. Live Oak Gardens includes beautiful gardens of azalea and camellia bushes, tropical plants, cypress swamps and centuries old oaks. Other places and things to see include Avery Island, Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, and Shadows on the Têche plantation.
