Multimedia in the classroom

  • Delivery technologies- info on and the pros & cons of VHS, CD-ROM, DVD, educational access channels, video & audio on demand services, satellite services   (like TV5), cable services, video & audio streaming, digital recording- all with the accent of  practical info on what's really available and what works for the teacher.
  •  Video & audio content: programs available at free or low cost from TV5, the French Cultural Services, International Channel, SCOLA and other sources. Copyright considerations.Distribution of CDs & DVDs with video segments and educational exercises.
  • Using the programs in the classroom: specific shows are correlated with   textbooks commonly used in the US French classroom (Ex: Using Episode 3 of   "Lettres de France" with Chapter Six of "Discovering French:Bleu"-teachers, after looking at exercises previously prepared, then   develop their own exercises based on textbooks they use. These videos & exercises are posted on our website: www.espacefrancophone.org

Internet

  • Technology and administrative questions: what options are available for teachers- low end to high end. Presentation of free resources on www.espacefrancophone.org
  • Training: online auto-learning services such as www.webteacher.org & www.learnthenet.com, overview of the essential elements teachers need to be familiar with.
  • Sample Internet exercises correlated to textbooks, based on the work of other French teachers in the U.S.  (ex: "Visite Virtuelle de Paris"   in "Discovering French- Bleu- Chapter 22".  After trying some exercises developed in previous workshops, teachers then work in small teams to create their own exercises related to textbooks. Different levels and approaches with an emphasis on culture, on grammar, and on communicative skills.
  • Discussion of how to relate this work to the local, state and national standards (5 C's)
  • Email, penpals, chatrooms & internet safety & copyright issues.
